Information design

Information design makes complex data easy to understand and ntuitive to navigate. With smart information design and data visualization, you can communicate your message more effectively, highlight what truly matters, and help your audience discover new insights.

Making knowledge visible

Numbers, location data, time series, hierarchies and other content structures are translated into visual form by skilled hands, revealing features of the data that would remain hidden in text or tables. A well-designed data visualization or infographic will attract readers and compete for attention on social media, but even more important is the way visual presentation helps structure the data and build a complete picture.

Visualizations can be static, moving or interactive, and can be built to update automatically as new information is added to the database.

The visualization makes information visible and, at its best, reveals insights the viewer would never have guessed were there.

Annual reports and annual reviews

We specialize in digital, interactive data visualization packages. Instead of a printed publication, annual reports could more often be implemented as engaging and reader-friendly online services — without forgetting, of course, the clarity, relevance and compliance of the report. Comparative material from previous years can be included and viewers can influence how the data is presented. And why think of the annual report as just a once-a-year communication tool? Its content should be broken into smaller chunks, perhaps lightly animated, and shared throughout the year on internal communication channels and social media.

Sustainability communication, sustainability reports

Verification of accountability, traceability of documentation and reporting requirements are becoming increasingly stringent. Customers and society are demanding more rigorous communication based on measured data. And rightly so! But please ensure that thoroughly implemented and ambitious sustainability or responsibility reports don't remain just the content of results announcement day.

Information design can help make often abstract sustainability actions and their impact visible throughout the year and across different communication channels. We help companies use the data collected through the CSRD (Corporate Sustainability Reporting Directive) for internal communications, branding, employer image development and external communications.

Accessibility, colours

In visualisation, colours are not used for decoration, but to highlight meaningful differences between the objects depicted. For this reason, the colours used must be reliably distinguishable from each other and their use must be consistent. In all visualisations, it is particularly important that key accessibility factors are taken into account from the very beginning of the design process. We can meet all accessibility requirements in terms of colour, typography, textures and contrasts. We have produced accessibility guidelines for both the private and public sectors.

Training and tools

We offer training in information design and data visualisation in Finnish, English and Swedish for designers, communicators, researchers and other professionals. The trainers are Juuso Koponen and Jonatan Hildén, Finland's leading experts in information design.

We are happy to design and implement training packages according to our customers' needs and wishes. The training may well include, for example, tailoring a tool that supports information design to your specific needs and use, and ensuring smooth implementation. We also often develop guidelines for producing and publishing infographics that meet your organization's graphic design and accessibility requirements.

Graphic design, layout, publications

Do you need a designer for your brochure, a layout artist for your publication, a revision of your guidelines or a new format for your annual review? We have extensive experience in a wide range of graphic design work. And thanks to our versatile and skilled team of partners, it is easy for us to combine different needs and implementations: corporate identity redesigns, logo design, brand manuals, graphic guidelines, publication conceptualization, refining and optimizing different publication formats for each channel, and all-round visual design and implementation.

Pictograms, icons and icon libraries

In addition to general visual design issues, there are some specific challenges in designing pictograms. They need to be easily and quickly recognizable, even at small sizes or in otherwise difficult conditions. Pictograms do not usually stand alone, but form a pictogram system, which may include varying numbers of different signs, from a handful to several thousand. The signs in the same system should be stylistically consistent so that they are understood as related and visually equivalent, unless the intention is to emphasize certain signs over others.
